NYS Department of Labor unemployment rates dropping but claim processing still terrible?

I keep hearing on the news that unemployment is really down nationwide but my experience with NYS Department of Labor has been absolutely horrible this year. Filed my claim in October after getting laid off from my marketing job and it's been nothing but problems. First my weekly claims kept getting flagged for no reason, then I got stuck in adjudication for 6 weeks over some confusion about my last day of work. Even now that it's finally resolved I'm still having issues with the job search requirements - the system keeps rejecting my job contacts even though I'm following all the rules. Are unemployment rates actually going down or is NYS Department of Labor just making it impossible for people to get benefits? Anyone else dealing with this mess?

Same boat here. Got laid off in September and the whole process has been a disaster. My weekly claims keep getting kicked back for random reasons and customer service is impossible to reach. If unemployment is really down why is NYS Department of Labor still operating like they're overwhelmed?

The system problems aren't really related to how many people are unemployed. NYS Department of Labor has had these issues for years, even before the pandemic. Have you tried filing your weekly claims at different times? Sometimes the system works better late at night or early morning.

honestly the unemployment numbers are probably fake anyway. they dont count people who gave up looking or people like us who cant even get through the system to file properly

How long does a company have to respond to unemployment claim in NYS?

My former employer terminated me last month and I filed for unemployment benefits with NYS Department of Labor. How do u qualify for unemployment - confused about NYS Department of Labor requirements

I've been working at a restaurant for about 8 months but they just cut my hours down to like 10 hours a week because business is slow. My manager said I should look into filing for unemployment but I have no idea how this works or if I even qualify. Do you have to be completely unemployed or can you get benefits if your hours got cut? Also what are the basic requirements for NYS Department of Labor unemployment? I'm 22 and this is my first real job so I'm totally lost on this stuff.

NYS Department of Labor unemployment - what determines how much unemployment you get weekly?

Just got approved for unemployment after being laid off from my warehouse job and I'm confused about my weekly benefit amount. My friend who made way less than me is getting almost the same amount I am. I made $52,000 last year but my weekly benefit is only $380. How exactly does NYS Department of Labor calculate what you get? Is it based on your highest earning quarter or your total yearly income? I can't find a clear explanation anywhere and the my.ny.gov portal doesn't break down the calculation.

Also remember that your benefit amount is before taxes if you chose to have them withheld. That might be why it seems lower than you expected.

Can a company deny unemployment benefits in New York - NYS Department of Labor question

I just got fired from my job last week and my former employer is telling me they're going to contest my unemployment claim. They're saying I was terminated for misconduct but honestly I think they're just trying to avoid their unemployment insurance costs going up. Can a company actually deny unemployment benefits or does the NYS Department of Labor make that decision? I'm really stressed about this because I need these benefits to pay my rent.

You should continue filing your weekly claims during the adjudication process. If you're ultimately approved, you'll receive back pay for those weeks. If you're denied, you won't owe anything back. But definitely keep filing your weekly claims and doing your job search activities as required.
