If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to clarify your situation, I recently discovered this service called Claimyr that helped me connect with an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was stuck in adjudication for weeks and couldn't get anyone on the phone until I used their service.
The NYS Department of Labor system is so confusing with all these different categories. I've been filing for 3 months and still don't fully understand half the terminology they use on the website.
Just a heads up - if you have trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to check on your claim status, I used a service called Claimyr that helped me reach an actual agent. You can check out their site at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me time when my claim got stuck in adjudication.
the whole system is ridiculous honestly. you file a claim, wait forever, then have to jump through hoops every week just to get money you already earned through your work. but yeah you gotta do the initial filing first before any payments happen
Don't forget you'll also need to register for work search activities once your claim is approved. The job search requirements are pretty strict now - you have to document your search activities and be ready to show proof if they ask. Start looking for jobs right away even while your claim is processing.
The unemployment system is so confusing!! I filed 3 weeks ago and I still don't know if I'm getting the right amount. My claim says approved but the payment seems lower than what I calculated. Why can't they just make this stuff easier to understand???
ugh the whole system is designed to make it hard to get benefits. they want you to give up and stop filing. i've been dealing with adjudication for 2 months over some stupid paperwork issue and still no payments

I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I needed to check on my claim status after being terminated. Spent hours on hold with no luck. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Made the whole process way less stressful since I could actually talk to someone about my specific situation.

•Interesting, I'll keep that in mind if I run into issues reaching them. Thanks for the tip!

Just make sure you file right away because there's that one week waiting period before benefits start. Also be prepared for your employer to possibly contest your claim - they often do this automatically to try to keep their unemployment insurance rates down. Don't let that discourage you, just respond honestly to any requests for information during the adjudication process.
