If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor to ask about your benefit calculation, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get through to an actual agent without waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to verify my benefit amount was calculated correctly.

Just to add - when I was collecting unemployment last year, some landlords were hesitant about UI as income verification, but others accepted it as long as I could show consistent payment history and had a good credit score. Having documentation from NYS Department of Labor about your benefit amount definitely helps with applications.

•How did you prove you were fired and didn't quit? Did you need witnesses or documentation?

Don't give up! Even if the initial denial sticks, you can still appeal to an Administrative Law Judge if you lose the first hearing. I've seen people win at that level even after losing the initial appeal. The key is having documentation and being able to clearly explain your version of events.
