Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.
Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.
Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

The whole system is messed up!! They expect us to find jobs when there ARE NO JOBS. Then they threaten to cut benefits if we don't apply to enough places. It's like they don't understand basic economics - when unemployment is high, there's literally not enough work to go around!
I feel you on the frustration but they do have to maintain some standards. The job search requirement helps ensure benefits go to people actively looking.
Been through a few of these economic downturns over the years. The key is to cast a wider net - apply to temp agencies, consider part-time work, maybe look into retraining programs. NYS Department of Labor sometimes has additional resources during high unemployment periods. Don't give up, the cycle always turns around eventually.
Good point about temp agencies. I hadn't really considered that route but it might help bridge the gap until things improve.

Just to add - if you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about your claim, I recently discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get connected to actual agents. Might be worth checking out if you need to speak with someone about your benefits calculation.
Did you actually get through to someone? I've been calling the NYS Department of Labor number for two weeks and keep getting that busy signal or getting disconnected.
Yes! It took about 45 minutes but I actually spoke to a real person who explained my whole claim status. Much better than calling the regular number and waiting on hold forever.

this whole system is ridiculous, they make you jump through hoops to get unemployment then tax you on it like its some kind of bonus income when you're already struggling financially
so if i got unemployment in 2024 i definitely need to file taxes even if i dont usually file?
If unemployment was your only income and it was under $13,850 (the 2024 standard deduction), you're not required to file federal taxes. But you might want to anyway because you could get money back if you had taxes withheld. For New York state, the threshold is different so check with a tax professional.

THE WHOLE UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM IS A SCAM! They deny legitimate claims left and right then make you jump through hoops to prove you deserve your own money. I've been fighting them for 8 months over an overpayment that isn't even my fault. These people have NO accountability whatsoever!

One more thing - if your employer is lying about the reason you left, you might have a claim against them for defamation or interference with benefits. That would be a separate lawsuit from trying to sue NYS Department of Labor. An employment attorney could advise you on both angles.
