I had to deal with getting through to NYS Department of Labor when my claim went into adjudication. Calling their phone system was impossible - kept getting busy signals or hung up on after waiting an hour. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to an agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped me get answers about my contested claim status.
I had trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor when my employer contested my claim. Kept getting busy signals for weeks. Really helped me get my case resolved quickly.
Don't feel guilty about filing! That's what the system is for. Your employer has been paying into unemployment insurance specifically for situations like layoffs. It's not coming out of their pocket directly.
I had a really hard time getting through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor to check on my claim status when I was in a similar situation. Kept getting disconnected or put on hold for hours. I ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that basically calls and waits on hold for you, then connects you to an actual agent when they pick up. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made it so much easier to get real answers about my adjudication timeline.
The whole system is so confusing honestly. I've been trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks to clarify some of these rules but can never get through on the phone. The automated system just hangs up on me after waiting forever.
I had the same problem until I found Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get through to actual NYS Department of Labor agents when you can't reach them yourself. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped me get my questions answered without the endless hold times.
One thing people forget is that if you're doing any kind of work, even gig work or odd jobs, you HAVE to report it on your weekly claim. The amount doesn't matter - report everything. NYS Department of Labor will calculate how it affects your benefits but not reporting can get you in trouble for fraud.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about reporting work, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you actually reach a live agent. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. I used it last month when I had questions about reporting temporary work and it saved me hours of trying to call.

•I was skeptical too but it actually worked. Way better than sitting on hold for hours or having the system hang up on you.
