Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. I thought the same thing but honestly it was worth it to get through instead of calling hundreds of times. The value is in actually reaching someone who can help.
Don't feel guilty about filing! That's what the system is for. Your employer has been paying into unemployment insurance specifically for situations like layoffs. It's not coming out of their pocket directly.

One thing people forget is that if you're doing any kind of work, even gig work or odd jobs, you HAVE to report it on your weekly claim. The amount doesn't matter - report everything. NYS Department of Labor will calculate how it affects your benefits but not reporting can get you in trouble for fraud.

just be honest about it... my cousin tried to hide some side work and got caught when they audited his claim randomly. not worth the stress
