If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor to get clarification on your specific situation, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals when I had questions about my claim status.
I had so much trouble trying to figure this out when I lost my job! The NYS Department of Labor website lists all the disqualifications but it's confusing. I kept calling and getting busy signals for weeks. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually get through to speak with an agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Way easier than trying to call myself.
This is SO frustrating! Employers protest claims all the time just to delay payments even when they know they're wrong. The whole system is rigged against workers. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to prove you were legitimately laid off!
I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor on the phone when I needed help with my claim timing. If you run into issues or need to speak with someone about your specific situation, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Made the whole process much less stressful when I had questions about my filing.
Just to add - if you were laid off make sure you get documentation from your employer about the reason. NYS Department of Labor will verify with them anyway but having it upfront can speed up the process. Also start thinking about your job search plan because you'll need to be actively looking for work and keeping records.

For future reference, always save screenshots when you submit your unemployment application. The NYS Department of Labor system can be glitchy and having proof of submission helps if you need to call them. Also make sure you're checking the right section - sometimes claims show up under 'Benefit Programs' instead of 'Unemployment Insurance' in your my.ny.gov account.

•Thank you! I'll check the Benefit Programs section. I was only looking under Unemployment Insurance this whole time.
