I had a similar issue with my claim taking forever when unemployment was at record lows last year. Ended up having to call NYS Department of Labor dozens of times. Actually found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of being on hold and getting disconnected.
Low unemployment is bad because it gives employers too much power and they start cutting benefits and treating workers worse because they know people need jobs. Plus NYS Department of Labor gets stingy with approvals because they assume everyone should be able to find work easily.
UGH the NYS Department of Labor payment system is SO BROKEN!! I've been waiting 3 weeks for payments that show as 'issued' and still nothing in my account. This is ridiculous - people need this money to survive and they act like it's no big deal that payments just disappear into thin air.
One more thing to check - make sure you didn't accidentally set up a debit card instead of direct deposit. NYS Department of Labor sometimes defaults to their KeyBank debit card option and people don't realize it. If that's the case, you should have received a card in the mail within 7-10 days of your first issued payment.
The whole rollout was such a mess! I remember NYS Department of Labor kept changing the rules and nobody knew what was happening. They had to hire thousands of temporary workers just to handle all the claims. If you need exact dates, you might have to request your full claim history directly from them.
wait i thought unemployment was like 60% of your salary? thats what my friend told me when she got laid off from her job in albany
This is exactly why I keep telling people to have an emergency fund! You can't rely on the government to take care of you. That said, definitely apply for everything you qualify for and start job hunting immediately. The job market is actually pretty good right now in most industries.

honestly the whole system is a joke, they make you jump through hoops even when you have legitimate reasons for everything. I got denied twice before finally getting approved and it took MONTHS. but definitely still apply because you never know

File ASAP! The longer you wait the longer it takes to get your first payment. Even if there's adjudication you want to get in the system.
