Faxing (yes, FAXING in 2022 🤡) a letter explaining your situation sometimes works. The fax number is on their website. Include your claim ID, last 4 of SSN, and detailed timeline. Sounds crazy but it worked for me when nothing else did.
Who even owns a fax machine anymore? 😂 You can use online fax services though.
I know right?? I used an online fax service. The govt is truly stuck in 1995 lmao
Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? That's what finally worked for me after waiting 2 months. They have special contacts at unemployment and can often speed things up when there's a legitimate hardship.
I hadn't thought of that! How do I find my rep?
Google "find my NY state assembly member" - they have forms on their websites specifically for unemployment help
This happened to me last year! Having a baby due and waiting on backpay was so stressful. I ended up getting through to someone who helped after I mentioned I was about to lose my apartment. Took about 5 weeks total from first payment.
Ugh 5 weeks still seems so long. Did you just keep calling until you got through?
Honestly I used claimyr.com because I was desperate and couldn't sit on hold for hours with a toddler running around. Got through same day.
Quick question - did you recently change your address, phone number, or banking info? Sometimes that triggers their fraud detection system.
I did change my phone number about a month ago! Could that really cause all this?
100% yes. Their system flags any changes to contact info as potential fraud. When I updated my address I got the same alert.
protip: call your local state representative's office. seriously. i was dealing with this exact issue for weeks, called my assemblyman, and they have special contacts at unemployment that fixed it in 2 days. worth a shot!
u should try claimyr.com - literally just used it yesterday after seeing someone recommend it here. it calls unemployment for u and then rings your phone when someone picks up. got through to an agent in about 45 mins (they were on hold so i didnt have to be). agent fixed my issue right away once i explained everything.
yeah it actually works! they just do the hold time for you. i was skeptical too but i was desperate after not getting paid for 6 weeks

Always open ALL your mail during unemployment, even if it looks like junk. I've had important notices come in very plain unmarked envelopes. The system is designed to be confusing.

i hate KeyBank with a burning passion. their customer service is awful and their website looks like it was designed in 2005. switch to direct deposit asap
