Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Check if your mail is being forwarded or held. I had this exact problem because I had recently moved and my mail forwarding request with USPS expired right when my card was supposed to arrive. Had to call KeyBank to request a new card to my current address.
Question - after you got approved did you get an email about setting up payment preferences? I got that email and was able to choose direct deposit before any payments went out. Maybe check your spam folder?
I never got any email like that! Just checked spam too. Maybe that's a new feature they rolled out?
Could be. My claim was approved just last month. Maybe they finally updated the system.

If you need money urgently while waiting for unemployment to start, look into emergency assistance programs. NY has some decent options. When I was waiting for my first unemployment check, I got help with rent through ERAP. Just google "NY emergency assistance" and you'll find some resources.

I just went through this last week! Had the same problem. Just request the trusted referee video call option. They'll do a video verification where you show your photo ID and answer some questions. I didnt have any of those docs with my full SSN either, but the video call worked fine.
Did you have to wait in a long queue for the video call?
yeah it was like 3 hours 😭 but still faster than waiting for my parents to mail my SS card. Just put on netflix while you wait.

I'd be down except most offices are "appointment only" now and guess what - you can't get an appointment for tax issues! The system is rigged
this reminds me of when people were camping outside the unemployment offices during covid. nothing changes 😩
Contacted my state senator's office about this last week. Their constituent services person said they're getting FLOODED with these exact complaints. Apparently there's some kind of system-wide issue with the tax refund processing software. They took my info and said they'd escalate it, but warned me there are thousands of people in the same situation. Not very encouraging but at least confirms it's a known issue.

i got approved but my landlord refuses to participate in the program. says he doesn't want to agree to their terms (can't evict for 12 months, can't raise rent, etc). so now i'm just stuck in limbo. has anyone dealt with this?

•That's not true! They changed the rules a few months ago. They'll pay you directly and then it's your responsibility to pay the landlord.

ngl I was shocked when my ERAP application actually got approved. Applied in October, approved in January, landlord got paid last week. I didn't do anything special - just made sure all my docs were clear and followed up like once a week through the message center in the portal. Maybe I just got lucky with a good caseworker.
