This ID verification thing is happening to EVERYONE lately!!! My cousin just went through this last month! They're just trying to slow down payments!!! Make sure you call EVERY DAY until they fix it!!!
While it is happening more frequently, calling every day won't necessarily speed up the process. The verification team is separate from the call center staff. The best approach is to submit clear, legible documents as quickly as possible and then follow up once per week for status updates. Document every call with date, time, and representative name.
UPDATE 2: Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got this resolved! I submitted my ID documents (driver's license, SS card, and birth certificate) through their portal. It actually only took 8 days for them to verify everything, which was faster than the 2-3 weeks they quoted me. Once verified, I was able to certify for all the weeks I missed. Money should be in my account in 3-5 business days. If anyone else runs into this problem, make sure your documents are clear and that all four corners are visible in the photos/scans!
Great news! Thanks for updating us. This is helpful information for others who might encounter the same issue. The document quality tip is especially important - I've seen many cases where verification was delayed simply because the submitted documents were poor quality or partially cut off.
No not really! I just made sure I answered all the certification questions super carefully each week. My coworker thinks he messed up one of his work search answers and that's what triggered the extra review. Just double check everything before you submit.
Update: I managed to get through to someone at NYSDOL this morning (used that Claimyr service someone mentioned - worked surprisingly well). The agent confirmed my claim was approved but said I won't see payment until after my next certification due to the waiting week. At least I know it's coming! Thanks everyone for your help navigating this confusing system.
Glad you got through and got your answer! The waiting week trips up a lot of people. Just keep certifying every week and you should be good to go.
have u checked if ur bank account info is right in the system? my friend thought she was getting a keybank card but she actually had put in her direct deposit info when she applied and forgot about it lol. might be worth double checking
UPDATE: I finally got through to someone!!! I used Claimyr like someone suggested here and got a callback in about 30 minutes. The agent confirmed there was a security hold on my account because of the large backpay amount. She verified my identity and lifted the hold! She said my KeyBank card should be processed within 3 business days and I should receive it within 7-10 days after that. All my back payments will be loaded onto it when it arrives! I'm so relieved - thank you all for your help and suggestions!
That's excellent news! Make sure to activate the card immediately when you receive it, and set up a PIN that you'll remember. Also, be aware that there are some ATM fees with KeyBank cards unless you use KeyBank or Allpoint ATMs. You might want to consider setting up direct deposit once you have access to your funds - it's generally more reliable for future payments.
Just wanted to update - I used Claimyr this morning like someone suggested and actually got through to a real person! They confirmed my tourism recovery benefit check will be mailed May 25th. They also said there was indeed a flag on my account because I worked at the same place for over 4 years, but that it had already been resolved. AND they confirmed my current address was correct in the system. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help.
Great to hear! For anyone else reading this thread, the Tourism Recovery Benefit program is separate from regular unemployment benefits, so you need to check both systems for accurate information. The NYSDOL has actually posted an updated schedule on their website showing all tourism recovery payments should be processed by June 15, 2025 at the latest.
my cousin works at the unemployment office and she said their printer that makes the checks broke down for like a week lol that's why there were delays for everyone. such a mess!
OMG are you serious??? A BROKEN PRINTER is why thousands of us are waiting for money we desperately need??? This state is completely incompetent!!!

•Technically, all interest income should be reported regardless of the amount. However, the IRS only requires financial institutions to issue 1099-INT forms for interest payments of $10 or more. Since your amount is below that threshold, you likely didn't receive an official form, but it's still legally required to be reported. That said, the tax impact on $8.12 would be extremely minimal - probably less than $2 depending on your tax bracket. The IRS typically has bigger concerns than chasing down a few dollars in tax revenue.

After reading all these comments, I'm gonna just report it and be done with it. Not worth the stress over a few bucks. But I'm definitely remembering this the next time I hear the NY unemployment department talk about how they're "improving services." 🙄 Thanks everyone for the information and commiseration!
