I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks to ask this exact question but their phone lines are impossible. If you need to talk to someone directly about your specific situation, I recently used claimyr.com - they actually got me connected to a real person at NYS Department of Labor within like 20 minutes. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.
ugh the whole partial work thing is SO confusing. I've been avoiding taking any work because I'm scared I'll mess something up and owe money back. The NYS Department of Labor website doesn't explain it very clearly either.
Been waiting 5 days for mine and still nothing! Filed my weekly claim Sunday like always but no payment yet. Anyone else having delays this week??
Check your payment history on the NYS Department of Labor website. Sometimes there are issues that stop payment and you need to call them.
I had this happen when I couldn't get through to NYS Department of Labor by phone. Ended up using Claimyr.com to get connected to an agent - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. The agent was able to see there was a technical glitch holding up my payment and fixed it same day.
Been on unemployment 3 times over the years and never had to pay anything back. Your neighbor probably doesn't know what they're talking about
Just remember the golden rule - ALWAYS report your work and wages accurately. NYS Department of Labor will cross-reference with employer wage reports and if they find unreported income, you'll face overpayment penalties and possible fraud charges. Better to be honest and get reduced benefits than to risk the consequences.
The whole system is so confusing!! Why can't they just make it simple - work = no benefits, no work = benefits. All these partial payment calculations and reporting requirements are giving me anxiety.

Just a heads up - if your employer fights the claim and says you were fired for cause, you might have to go through an adjudication process. Could take weeks to resolve. Document everything about why you think the firing was unfair.

•Ugh, that's exactly what I'm worried about. I did save the texts about being sick but I don't have much else.

File immediately but also start job searching right away because you'll need to report your search activities when you file your weekly claims. NYS Department of Labor requires you to be actively looking for work to keep getting benefits.
