Just make sure you're actually eligible before filing! NYS Department of Labor will review your claim and if you quit voluntarily or were fired for misconduct, you might get disqualified. Better to have all your documentation ready about why you're unemployed - layoff notice, termination letter, whatever you have.
Just remember you'll need to do the job search requirements now too. I think it's 3 job search activities per week and you have to keep a log. The NYS Department of Labor website has all the details about what counts as a valid job search activity.
The whole system is designed to screw over part-time workers! I've been fighting with NYS Department of Labor for months over similar issues. They expect people to work full-time consistent schedules but then don't account for the reality of gig work and retail scheduling. It's absolutely ridiculous that you can work and pay into the system but then get denied because your earnings pattern doesn't fit their arbitrary boxes!
I feel you on the frustration but there are good reasons for the earnings requirements. The system needs to ensure people have sufficient work history and earnings to justify benefit payments. That said, calling NYS Department of Labor directly can help clarify if there were any reporting errors. I had luck using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) when I couldn't get through their phone lines - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works.
wait are you sure you're looking at the right base period? mine was different than what i expected when i filed my claim last month
ugh the whole system is so frustrating. i quit my job because of similar issues and NYS Department of Labor denied me. apparently my situation wasnt bad enough even though i was having panic attacks every morning. they make it nearly impossible to get benefits if you quit.
If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor to discuss your specific situation, I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me time instead of calling for hours.

•How much does that cost? I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my adjudication status.

•They focus on getting you connected rather than charging high fees. Worth checking out if you're stuck in phone hell with NYS Department of Labor.

The unemployment system was a mess during those years too, just for different reasons. Now at least NYS Department of Labor has better online systems, though the adjudication process still takes forever.
