THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO DENY PEOPLE! They probably just rubber stamped whatever your employer said without investigating. I've seen this happen so many times - they side with employers automatically even when they're lying about the reason for termination.
ugh dealing with unemployment bureaucracy is bad enough NOW, can't imagine what it was like in 1982 without computers. I've been trying to get through to someone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my adjudication status and the phone system is still a nightmare
If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor by phone, I found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an agent. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way better than sitting on hold for hours.
The whole system is designed to confuse people and pay out as little as possible! I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and they make everything unnecessarily complicated. Your benefit amount is probably exactly what they intended - just enough to keep you from starving but not enough to live comfortably. Don't expect any help from their customer service either.
This whole system is so bureaucratic! Why can't they just make it simple instead of having federal AND state involvement? No wonder people get confused about who to contact when there's problems.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!! I've been waiting 2 MONTHS and nobody at NYS Department of Labor can give me a straight answer about what's happening with my claim. They make you jump through hoops and then just leave you hanging with no income.

•I feel your frustration but getting angry doesn't help. The adjudication process exists for good reasons even though it's painful to wait through.

Keep documentation of everything - your filing dates, weekly claim confirmations, any correspondence. If there are issues later you'll need proof you followed all the requirements. Also double-check that you're meeting the job search requirements during this waiting period.

•Good point about the job search log. I've been doing searches but haven't been keeping detailed records like I should.
