you might want to look into constructive discharge too. if they're making working conditions so bad that any reasonable person would quit, that could be treated like being fired instead of quitting
the nys department of labor payment system is so confusing!! took me weeks to figure out why my amounts kept changing. turns out i was reporting my hours wrong and they were deducting way more than they should have been. spent forever trying to get through to someone to fix it
If you're having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor by phone, try using Claimyr at claimyr.com - they help you get through to an actual agent instead of waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling when I had payment issues to resolve.
I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks to ask about my benefit rate calculation and keep getting hung up on or stuck in endless hold queues. It's so frustrating when you just need a simple answer about your claim. I ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to a real person at NYS Department of Labor within like 20 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Totally worth it when you're dealing with urgent benefit questions.
Never heard of that service but honestly anything has to be better than sitting on hold for hours just to get disconnected. Did they charge you a lot?
The whole unemployment system in this state is a joke honestly. They make it so hard to get basic information and the website is constantly down when you need to file your weekly claim. Then they wonder why people get frustrated with the process.
I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about my appeal. Kept getting busy signals for weeks. Finally used claimyr.com to get connected to an actual agent who walked me through what documents I needed. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made the whole process way less stressful when I could actually talk to someone.
I went through this last year when they said I was fired for misconduct which was total BS. During the appeal hearing I got to tell my side and my former employer had to prove their case too. The judge ruled in my favor and I got all my back benefits. Don't give up if you think the initial decision was wrong!

Make sure you have all your employment info ready when you apply - employer names, addresses, dates of employment, reason for separation, etc. The application asks for a lot of details and if you mess something up it can delay your claim.
