Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The job market definitely varies by industry. Retail and food service are hiring but often at lower wages. Healthcare and skilled trades are doing better. Tech is still recovering. Really depends on what field you're in.
I'm in retail so hopefully that means more opportunities for picking up additional hours somewhere.
Yeah retail should have options, especially with the holiday season coming up. Might be temporary but could help with the income gap.
To answer your original question - unemployment right now is 'complicated' lol. The system works but has frustrations. The job market is improving but competitive. Benefits are available but require jumping through hoops. If you need the help, file for it. Just be prepared for some bureaucracy.

Last piece of advice - don't wait to file! Your benefit year starts when you file your claim, not when you became unemployed. Every week you wait is potentially a week of benefits you're missing out on.
File as soon as possible! You can't get benefits for weeks before you file your initial claim, so don't delay.
Exactly right. Washington ESD can't pay retroactive benefits for weeks before your claim was filed, even if you were unemployed.

Bottom line: No $600 federal supplement exists anymore. Your unemployment amount from Washington ESD is based on your work history and wages. If you have questions about your specific amount, contact Washington ESD directly - though good luck getting through on the phone!
Agreed, the phone system is impossible otherwise. I gave up trying to call directly months ago.
For what it's worth, I looked into this same question last month and confirmed through Washington ESD that there are no federal supplements currently active. Just wanted to add my verification to this thread.
