Oh and one more thing - make sure you're available for work and actively seeking employment. If you're planning to go back to school full-time or take an extended vacation, you might not be eligible during those periods.
The whole system is pretty straightforward once you get used to it. I've been filing weekly claims for 8 weeks now and it takes maybe 5 minutes each Sunday. The hardest part is really just that initial application.
Final note for anyone reading this later: if you have questions about unemployment eligibility or your employer contests your claim, document everything and don't hesitate to appeal if you believe you're eligible. The system works when people use it properly.
thanks everyone, this was way more informative than anything i could find on the washington esd website. you all rock!
If you do end up needing to file and have trouble getting through to Washington ESD for any reason, that Claimyr thing really is worth trying. I was skeptical at first but it saved me so much time and frustration when I needed to update my claim information.
Whatever you do, don't admit to any policy violations during the interview even if they seem minor. Stick to the facts about your job performance and separation without volunteering potentially damaging information.
Good luck with your interview! Most people who were genuinely trying to do their job and weren't fired for theft or other serious misconduct end up getting approved. Washington ESD knows the difference between poor performance and willful misconduct.

Quick clarification - the 2025 Washington state unemployment insurance taxable wage base is actually $68,500, not $67,600 like someone mentioned earlier. Small difference but wanted to be accurate.

Bottom line: don't worry about the federal $7k limit affecting your benefits. Your Washington ESD claim is based on your real wages during your base period quarters. The wage limits for taxes and the wage limits for benefit calculations are totally different things.

•Perfect summary! I'm going to stop worrying about this and focus on getting through to someone about my claim status.
