Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. The key thing is that being laid off makes you eligible for unemployment regardless of severance. The severance might affect the amount you get each week, but it doesn't disqualify you from filing. File immediately and let ESD sort out the details.

If you do run into any complications or need to speak with someone at Washington ESD, I had good luck using Claimyr to get through to an actual person. quick question - do you need a social security number to apply for washington unemployment? or can you use your individual taxpayer identification number?
You'll need a Social Security Number for unemployment benefits. DACA recipients are eligible for SSNs, so you should apply for one if you don't have it already.
oh ok that makes sense. i thought itin might work but ssn makes more sense for employment stuff

Seriously, the website is so hard to navigate. Real people explaining things is so much better.
For anyone still confused about the calculation, Washington ESD has a benefit calculator tool on their website, but it's pretty buried in the menus. Might be worth checking out if you want to estimate your benefit amount.

Yeah it's under the 'Calculate Benefits' section if you can find it. Not the most user-friendly interface but it works.

The bottom line is be completely honest and report everything. It's better to lose some benefits temporarily than to deal with fraud allegations later. Washington ESD takes unreported work very seriously.

For anyone still having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone, I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it actually worked. Got through to an agent in about 10 minutes instead of spending hours trying to call.

Thread summary for anyone finding this later: Washington ESD pays unemployment benefits every Tuesday for weekly claims filed the previous week. File Sunday for current week processing, file later for next week processing. First payment may be delayed 3-5 business days. Bank holidays can delay Tuesday payments to Wednesday.
