Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Make sure you're filing during your designated day! NYS Department of Labor assigns you a specific day of the week to file based on your last name. If you try to file on the wrong day the system won't let you through. Check your paperwork or account to see what day you're supposed to file.
Oh wow I had no idea about designated days! That might explain why I keep getting locked out. How do I find out what day I'm supposed to file?

I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I needed to verify my wage history for a claim last year. If you need to speak with someone about benefit calculations or employer contributions, I found this service called Claimyr that helps you actually reach agents by phone. The key thing is don't delay filing! I made that mistake and lost out on benefits for the weeks I waited. In NY you can file online through ny.gov which is usually faster than calling. Make sure your sister has her social security number, driver's license, and employment history ready. She'll need to know her last employer's info including their address and phone number.

THE SYSTEM IS SO BROKEN!!! They disqualify people for the stupidest reasons and never explain properly. I bet it's some technicality in how you answered one of the weekly questions. They're looking for any excuse to deny claims these days.

Check if you accidentally answered 'yes' to working or earning money when you didn't, or if you missed reporting some part-time work. Even small mistakes on weekly claims can trigger disqualifications. The good news is most of these can be fixed if you catch them early and provide the correct information.
