I've been trying to reach the NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my claim that's stuck in adjudication and can never get through on the phone. The hold times are insane and half the time they just hang up on you. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to a real person there?
I had the same problem last month until someone told me about Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to NYS Department of Labor agents by phone. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. I was skeptical at first but it actually got me connected to an agent the same day and they resolved my adjudication issue.
I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I needed verification letters for a loan application. The phone lines are always busy and the online chat never works. If you need to talk to someone about getting official benefit verification documents, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to agents. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling.
ugh the whole system is so frustrating when youre already stressed about money... like why cant they just have better verification processes online instead of making us jump through hoops
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about your benefits, I used a service called Claimyr that got me connected to an agent in under 10 minutes. They have this whole system for navigating the phone queues - there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI and their site is claimyr.com. Saved me hours of calling and getting hung up on.
I had the same confusion when I first filed! The federal unemployment tax act is essentially the federal government's way of helping states maintain their unemployment systems. New York gets federal funding that helps supplement what the state collects from employers. As a claimant, you don't need to worry about FUTA itself - just focus on whether you want taxes withheld from your weekly payments. You can change this setting in your my.ny.gov account under payment preferences.
This is super helpful! I've been trying to reach NYS Department of Labor to ask about tax withholding but their phone lines are always busy. Have you had any luck getting through to them recently?
I actually used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a NYS Department of Labor agent about my tax withholding questions. They have this system that waits on hold for you and connects you when an agent is available. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call myself and actually got my withholding set up properly.
honestly the whole tax situation with unemployment is confusing as hell. between FUTA and state taxes and federal taxes on benefits its like they want us to mess it up

•That's interesting, I might need to try that if I have more questions about my 1099-G form.

Just to add - unemployment benefits also don't count toward your Social Security earnings record, which is another way they differ from regular wages. Important to know if you're close to retirement and tracking your earnings history.
