congrats!! i remember 2019 when literally everywhere was hiring and unemployment was super low. now its the opposite lol. did you have to do the job search requirements during your adjudication or do those start after approval?
The NYS Department of Labor system is SO FRUSTRATING!! They deny weeks for the stupidest reasons and then make it impossible to reach anyone for help. I swear they do this on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits they're entitled to.
To get this resolved, you'll need to either call NYS Department of Labor directly or file an appeal if you believe the denial was incorrect. If it was just a misunderstanding about your availability during the doctor's appointment, they should be able to reverse it. Make sure you have documentation of the appointment and can explain why you were still able and available for work the other days that week.
I struggled with getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I had questions during my filing process. The phone lines are constantly busy and the online chat rarely works. I ended up using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me time and stress when I needed to clarify some employment dates that were confusing me.
One thing they don't tell you upfront - if you have ANY questions about your employment history or eligibility, expect your claim to go into adjudication. Mine sat there for 3 weeks because I had a brief contract job that ended right before my layoff. The NYS Department of Labor system flags anything that looks remotely complicated and then you're stuck waiting for a human to review it.
honestly the whole system is set up to make it hard to get real answers about anything including basic statistics. been trying to get data for my nonprofit for months

•Ugh that's terrible! Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? Sometimes they can help push things along when adjudication drags on that long.

The whole calculation system is so unnecessarily complicated. Why can't they just make it a simple percentage of your previous year's income like some other benefits do? The NYS Department of Labor website explains it like you need a PhD in mathematics to understand it.
