Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. I was having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor to ask about benefit extensions and found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to an agent. NYS Department of Labor is such a nightmare to deal with. They'll probably take forever to decide and then ask for a million documents. But yeah you should still file even if they fire you for attendance.
Wait, so if I get fired I can still get unemployment? I thought only people who got laid off could get benefits.
Common misconception! You can get unemployment if you're fired, as long as it wasn't for willful misconduct. NYS Department of Labor makes the final determination based on the facts of your case.

Don't forget you also need to meet the work search requirements once you start collecting. You have to apply for jobs and keep a log of your job search activities. NYS Department of Labor can audit this stuff so keep good records!

How much does that cost? I'm already broke from being unemployed and can't afford expensive services right now.
It's actually pretty reasonable and way better than spending hours on hold getting nowhere. The peace of mind was worth it for me.
THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST WORKERS!!! They always side with employers even when the employer is clearly in the wrong. I appealed twice and lost both times even with perfect documentation. Don't get your hopes up but definitely try anyway because you have nothing left to lose at this point.
That's really discouraging to hear. I was hoping the hearing process would be more fair than the initial decision.

Been there! When I first filed I was totally lost too. Basically unemployment gives you weekly payments while you look for a new job, but there are rules. You have to be able to work, available for work, and actively seeking work. If you turn down a suitable job offer they can disqualify you. The payments usually last up to 26 weeks unless there are extensions.
