Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN! I quit for good cause too and they STILL denied me initially. Had to appeal and it took 3 months to get it overturned. Document EVERYTHING because they will try to deny you first.

THIS!! The whole unemployment system treats us like we're lazy or trying to scam the system when most of us just want to work and pay our bills. The job search requirements are reasonable but acting like unemployment is a personal moral failing is BS.

Wait, I'm confused about something. If they're taking tax refunds, does that mean they can also garnish wages? I have an overpayment notice too but I'm back to work now.
Yes, NYS Department of Labor can garnish wages too, but tax offsets usually happen first because they're easier to process. Once you're working, they might send garnishment orders to your employer. The good news is there are limits on how much they can take from your paycheck - usually no more than 10% of your gross wages.

without seeing the specific options its hard to say but incorrect statements usually involve misunderstanding about partial unemployment benefits or thinking you cant work ANY hours while collecting

Part-time work is allowed but gets complicated with the earnings deduction formula. Best to report all earnings accurately on your weekly certification to avoid overpayment issues later.

The system is broken regardless of who's in office! I've been waiting 2 months for my appeal hearing and they keep rescheduling. NYS Department of Labor doesn't care about us regular people trying to survive.

Same boat here - filed in December and still waiting. My cousin got approved in like 2 weeks though so I don't think it's about unemployment rates, probably just depends on your specific situation.
