Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

The unemployment system is designed to make you feel like you're failing even when you're doing everything right. Those statistics don't account for people who have to take jobs that pay way less than their previous position just to get off unemployment. NYS Department of Labor counts that as a 'success' but is it really?
I understand the frustration but the data does show most people find comparable employment within 6 months. It's not perfect but the system does work for the majority of claimants.

Just be super careful about the reason for separation part. If you put down the wrong thing it can mess up your whole claim. For layoffs you want to select 'lack of work' or 'company downsizing' - don't accidentally pick anything that makes it sound like you quit or were fired for misconduct.
Good point! It was definitely a layoff, they closed the location completely. I'll make sure to be clear about that.

I've been trying to get through to someone at NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my own claim and it's impossible! The phone system is a nightmare and I keep getting hung up on. Has anyone found a way to actually talk to a real person there?

I don't remember the exact pricing but it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of getting hung up on constantly. Way cheaper than missing weeks of benefits while waiting.

The whole quarter system is confusing AF. Like why can't they just use your last year's W-2? Would be so much simpler than this base period nonsense

I think there might be different rules if you don't have enough earnings in the regular base period? Something about an alternate base period that uses more recent quarters but I'm not sure how that works.
