Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. omg this reminds me of when my aunt tried to tell me the same thing! She was like 'you're taking money from hardworking people' and I was like no aunt susan thats not how this works lol. some people just dont understand the system
Exactly! I think a lot of people just don't realize that unemployment is actually an insurance program that we all pay into through our employers.

just so you know disaster unemployment usually requires federal declaration of disaster in your area. not every flood or storm qualifies unfortunately
The timing matters too - you usually have to apply within a certain timeframe after the disaster declaration. Don't wait too long to file your application with NYS Department of Labor. The disaster assistance program has stricter deadlines than regular unemployment.
Good point about the deadlines. The flooding happened two weeks ago so I should be okay timing-wise. Just want to make sure I understand the benefit amounts before I apply.

The whole system is rigged in favor of employers!! They know most people can't afford lawyers to fight these cases so they just throw around accusations hoping you'll give up. Document EVERYTHING and don't let them intimidate you into withdrawing your claim.
I mean, there are legitimate cases where people do get fired for good reasons though. But yeah, some employers definitely abuse the system.

Just want to add that you'll still need to file your weekly claims even on standby status. A lot of people think they don't have to do anything until they get called back to work, but you absolutely have to keep certifying every week or you won't get paid. The only difference is you don't have to provide proof of job search activities since you're attached to your employer.

For most people it's about 2-3 weeks total if there are no complications. Week 1 is filing and waiting for determination, Week 2 is your unpaid waiting week where you still need to certify weekly, Week 3 is when you should see your first payment if everything is approved. The important thing is to keep certifying every week even if you haven't been paid yet, and make sure you're doing your job search requirements from day one.
