Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. That sounds too good to be true. How much does something like that cost?
They focus on just getting you connected to the right person rather than giving advice. Was worth it for me since I was getting nowhere on my own.
The whole system is rigged against workers anyway. They'll deny you for breathing wrong then make you jump through hoops to prove you deserve benefits you already paid into. Document everything but don't get your hopes up - they rarely overturn these decisions even when you're obviously right.
Actually appeal success rates are higher than most people think, especially for voluntary separation cases where there's clear documentation of workplace issues. The key is presenting evidence properly.

I think Hawaii might actually have higher benefits but don't quote me on that. The whole system varies so much state to state it's crazy
Just to clarify - while NY has high maximum benefits, what you actually receive is calculated as a percentage of your average weekly wage during your base period. The $504 is only if you were earning around $1,300+ per week consistently. Most people get somewhere between $200-400 weekly.

The whole system is basically employers paying insurance premiums through payroll taxes to the state. Higher turnover companies pay higher rates. NYS Department of Labor sets the tax rates based on each employer's claim history - its called experience rating.
That makes more sense. So companies that lay people off a lot have to pay more into the system?

I dont understand why they make this so complicated. If someone cuts your pay that much obviously you cant survive on it!!! The whole system needs to be fixed.
