Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The NY unemployment system is deliberately complicated to prevent people from getting benefits. It's been this way for YEARS. Identity verification through ID.me is just the security checkpoint - you still need to file an actual claim. Sorry you're dealing with this!

Just an FYI - after you do apply (which yes, is separate from ID verification), don't be surprised if your claim gets flagged for additional verification. Mine was and I couldn't get any benefits for 6 weeks until I could talk to someone. The phone lines are impossible to get through on, I had to use claimyr.com to get a callback from an agent. Frustrating but it finally got resolved.
Saame. My claim was pending for almost 8 weeks because of "verification issues" whatever that means. Calling did nothing until I tried that service too. Suddenly my money appeared three days later 😒

This whole system is a joke. I used to work for a state agency (not unemployment but similar) and I can tell you exactly what's happening: these cases get flagged in their system and put in a special investigation queue. The problem is they have like 5 investigators for thousands of cases. So unless someone manually flags your case as priority, it just sits there forever. You need to find a way to get it prioritized.

I tried for MONTHS to get my claim fixed after identity theft. Called hundreds of times. Finally used claimyr.com and got through to a real person who actually helped. Nobody seems to be mentioning this, but your chances might depend on WHEN you were fired. The NY state healthcare worker mandate officially went into effect Sept 27, 2021. If your employer fired you before the official mandate, you might have a better case.

PSA to everyone receiving benefits: UNEMPLOYMENT IS TAXABLE INCOME. The feds want about 10%, NY state will want their cut too. Option 4 only covers federal, not state.
