Make sure u have all your documents ready when u finally get through to someone! They asked me for: - Original claim confirmation number - Dates of the missing weeks - Proof I was eligible during those weeks (I used a termination letter with my last day of work) - My current mailing address (even though it hadn't changed) Being super prepared made the process go way faster once I finally got someone on the phone.
I had a somewhat similar situation and what worked was contacting the ombudsman office. Google "ny unemployment ombudsman" and you'll find the contact info. They're specifically there to help with unusual situations that the regular customer service can't/won't handle.
How long did it take to hear back from the ombudsman? I submitted a request 3 weeks ago and silence...
Took about 4 weeks for me, so hang in there! They're slow but WAY more effective than calling the main line.
YOUR ROOMATE NEEDS TO CALL THEM!!!!! i went thru same thing, my claim was 'approved' but no backpay came, turns out there was a flag on my account that needed manual override. system is a JOKE. don't just wait!!
The only way I finally got my backpay was through my state representative's office. Call your local assembly member - they have special contacts at unemployment and can expedite claims. Worked for me after 3 months of getting nowhere.
Yo I literally couldn't get through to unemployment for MONTHS about my identity theft issue. Then I tried claimyr.com and got connected to a real person in like 2 hours. They got my case resolved that same day. The agent I talked to said they're dealing with thousands of fraud cases right now so you gotta be persistent.
No catch - they just call for you and wait on hold so you don't have to. When an agent picks up, they forward the call to your phone. Saved me like 6 hours of hold music lol
So I called unemployment 37 TIMES last month with no luck. Used Claimyr yesterday and talked to someone in under an hour. Sometimes you gotta try something different when the system is this broken.
CHECK YOUR MAIL CAREFULLY! When someone stole my identity for unemployment, I almost threw away a letter that looked like junk mail but was actually a tax form for benefits I never received. Also be prepared for this to potentially affect your taxes - you might get a 1099-G form for unemployment income that isn't yours. You'll need to contact NYS tax department to get that corrected too.
if your employer doesnt verify that you werent actually laid off, you might be dealing with this for awhile. make sure you contact ur current/former employer to have them confirm with unemployment that you never lost your job.
anyone have a lawyer recommendation who specializes in this kind of stuff? im in a similar situation but might need legal help
Most people don't actually need a lawyer for this. Save your money and follow the steps people mentioned above. The systems are in place to handle it, they're just slow af.

When did everyone get ID.me? I had to do that verification last year but my buddy who just filed got the fraud message instead. Seems like they're using different systems for different people??

•They switched away from ID.me in some counties but not others. I'm in Albany and still had to use it, but my sister in Queens got the internal NYSDOL verification instead.

i stg ny unemployment is actively TRYING to keep people from getting benefits. like they make the system as broken as possible on purpose 🤡

•I swear this is true. The website looks like it was designed in 2003 and never updated.

•Facts. I work in IT and their system is a joke. Crashes every Monday like clockwork when everyone tries to certify.
