theres a buncha misinformation here tbh. if u didnt work enough during ur benefit year (like earn 10x ur weekly benefit) u might just get auto-extended n not have to file new claim. system tells u what to do
This is partially correct but not entirely. Whether you need to file a new claim depends on several factors, including if you worked during your benefit year and if you qualify under current eligibility requirements. The system will typically prompt you with next steps, but it's always best to be prepared to file a new claim after your BYE date.
quick question does anyone know if we have to report the extra $300 we got per week last march? or is that part already included in the form?
All supplemental benefits should already be included in your 1099-G total amount. The form shows the combined total of all unemployment payments you received during the year, including any federal supplements. You don't need to report them separately - just use the total shown on the form.
By the way, I filed a complaint with the state comptroller last year after the 1099 forms disappeared. They claimed it was a "scheduled maintenance" that somehow lasted for weeks with no prior notice!!! Don't believe their excuses - they just don't invest in proper IT infrastructure and we all suffer for it.
It's so frustrating! The whole system feels like it's held together with duct tape sometimes. Thanks for trying to hold them accountable though!
I had the same problem last month when they were doing some other update. What worked for me was trying to log in using the mobile site instead of the regular website. For some reason it was still working even when the main site was down. Try typing m.labor.ny.gov instead of the regular address.
Great tip! Just tried the mobile site and was able to at least see my account summary page. Still getting errors when trying to access detailed payment info, but it's better than nothing. Thanks!
For anyone still experiencing issues, the NYSDOL just posted an update on their social media. The system should be fully operational again by 9am tomorrow. They're also extending all certification deadlines by 3 days to accommodate for the downtime.
THE NY UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!! They DELIBERATELY make it hard to get your money hoping you'll give up. I had the EXACT same issue last month and had to call 67 TIMES before getting through. When I finally talked to someone they said "oh it was just a glitch in the system" and fixed it in 30 seconds. They do this ON PURPOSE to save money!!!! Everyone should file complaints with the state oversight board!
While the system certainly has its frustrations, most delays are due to verification procedures and high volume rather than deliberate obstruction. The NYSDOL processes thousands of claims daily, and the verification systems are designed to prevent fraud, which increased 400% during the pandemic. These protective measures sometimes create legitimate delays, but there's no evidence of intentionally withholding approved benefits.
FINAL UPDATE: All my payments just hit my account this morning! 5 weeks of backpay all at once. Such a relief! If anyone else is dealing with this, definitely keep calling until you get through to someone who can actually check your specific claim status. Don't just trust when they say "it's processing" or "it should be there next week" - ask for specific details about what's causing the delay.

btw when i was in your situation i eventually got through by calling EXACTLY at 8:00am the second they opened. Like i had my phone ready and kept hitting redial. Still took 3 days but finally got someone.

•I tried that too!!! I set my alarm for 7:55am and started calling right at 8 and STILL couldn't get through. It's like they don't want to help people.

UPDATE: I tried the Claimyr thing someone suggested and it actually worked! Got connected to a real person at NYSDOL after trying for weeks. They fixed my claim issue - turns out there was a verification problem they never told me about. My payments should start processing now. Thanks everyone for the help!!!

•That's great news! Glad you got it resolved. For future reference though, your state representatives really can help with these issues too - just takes longer. They have staff specifically for helping constituents with state agency problems.
