Thanks everyone for the explanations! I just double-checked my tax forms and found the exclusion on Schedule 1. Mystery solved - it was already included in my refund. I think I was expecting more because I forgot about the state tax portion still being due. Really appreciate all the help!
Glad you got it sorted out! And yes, that state tax portion trips up a lot of people. The federal exclusion doesn't affect NY state taxes, which is why your refund might have seemed smaller than expected. If you still have questions about your return, consider contacting a tax professional or the IRS directly, especially if the numbers don't add up.
kinda related but my unemployment 1099-G form for 2024 has wrong amount on it, anybody know how to get that fixed? i tried calling NY unemployment but cant get through
You need to request a corrected 1099-G. Try using the message system in your NY.gov account, specifically selecting "Tax Form" as the subject. If that doesn't work after a week, that's another situation where Claimyr can help get you through to someone who can fix it - incorrect tax documents need to be addressed quickly.
I had to fill out that form last month too. Took me forever to figure out how to do the signature part correctly. Make sure you click the yellow tabs and actually type your name in the signature field rather than just clicking next. Mine got rejected the first time because I didn't complete all the signature spots correctly.
Update: I submitted the form last night around 9pm and got the DocuSign confirmation email. Checked my portal this morning and it shows as received! Thanks everyone for your help and quick responses. Such a relief!
just FYI everyone i noticed if u put dollar signs $ in your post it almost always gets hidden. also words like "appeal" "denied" "fraud" get posts hidden too
For those concerned about missing updates, here's a comprehensive system I've developed to stay informed without relying on Facebook: 1. Check your NY.gov account Message Center every morning (this is where official notices appear) 2. Set up direct deposit alerts with your bank so you know when payments arrive 3. Add the NYSDOL phone number to your contacts with a distinctive ringtone 4. Create a calendar reminder for your weekly certification day/time 5. Sign up for the NYSDOL text alerts by texting "NYSDOL" to 468311 This combination ensures you won't miss critical updates regardless of what happens with Facebook groups.

my brother works at the DOL and says they are SUPER backlogged right now because of some computer system update gone wrong. priority might not mean much tbh

•Of course they messed up their computers AGAIN! They do this EVERY YEAR I swear. They probably did it on purpose just to make us wait longer!!

Just one more thing to consider - make sure your fiancé continues to certify for benefits every week while waiting for the review to complete. Many people make the mistake of stopping certification during pending reviews, but he should continue doing his weekly certifications as normal. If approved, he'll receive all backdated payments for properly certified weeks.

•Yes, he's been doing that religiously every Sunday! Thanks for the reminder though - it's definitely important.
