I feel your pain - this exact same thing happened to me about 8 months ago! Missing that interview call because I was literally just in the bathroom for 5 minutes completely derailed my benefits for over a month. The system is absolutely designed to trip people up. Based on all the responses here, 835-905-5682 seems to be the right number for missed interview reinstatements. I can confirm this matches what I had to call. Here's my strategy that eventually worked: 1. Call at exactly 8:00 AM - I mean have your finger ready to hit call at 7:59:59 2. If busy signal, hang up and redial immediately - sometimes takes 5-6 attempts 3. When you get through, ask for tier 2 specialist right away - don't waste time with tier 1 4. Have your documentation ready (claim number, the form you filled out explaining the missed call) I also recommend calling your state assembly person like others mentioned - that actually got my case flagged and expedited after weeks of getting nowhere on the phone. The whole thing is infuriating but don't give up! You WILL get your benefits back and hopefully the backpay too. Just prepare yourself mentally for it being a marathon, not a sprint. We're all rooting for you!
Thank you so much for all these detailed strategies! It's both comforting and absolutely maddening to see how many people have been through this exact same ordeal. The fact that missing a bathroom break can derail someone's entire financial stability is just insane. I'm definitely going to try the 7:59:59 calling strategy tomorrow morning - that level of precision seems to be key based on everyone's experiences. The assembly person tip keeps coming up so I'm definitely adding that to my action plan too. It's ridiculous that we need to become unemployment system experts just to get basic benefits, but I really appreciate this community sharing all these hard-learned lessons. Fingers crossed I can join the success stories soon! 🤞
Reading through all these responses is both eye-opening and infuriating! I had no idea so many people were dealing with this exact same issue. The NY unemployment system is clearly broken when missing a single phone call (for completely reasonable reasons like being in the bathroom!) can cut off someone's lifeline. I've been in a similar situation for the past 3 weeks - they called during my dentist appointment and even though I called back within an hour, my benefits got suspended. The stress of not knowing when your next payment is coming while bills pile up is absolutely brutal. From what everyone's shared here, it sounds like 835-905-5682 is definitely the number to try, and the strategy of calling right at 8:00 AM sharp seems crucial. I'm also going to try that assembly person contact trick - never knew that was an option! @Rami Samuels - you've got an amazing support system here with all this advice. Don't let the system wear you down. Based on everyone's success stories, persistence really does pay off. We shouldn't have to become unemployment experts just to get basic benefits we're entitled to, but at least this community has our backs! Sending good vibes that you get through tomorrow and get this sorted out quickly! 🙏
This whole thread has been such an eye-opener for me too! I'm new to this community but going through my own unemployment nightmare right now. It's honestly shocking how broken the NY system is - like they've designed it to fail people on purpose. The fact that so many of us have nearly identical stories (random unscheduled calls, immediate benefit cuts, impossible phone lines) really shows this isn't just bad luck but systemic dysfunction. I'm taking notes on all these strategies everyone has shared - the 8AM sharp calling, asking for tier 2 immediately, contacting assembly reps, using multiple phones. It's ridiculous that we need a PhD in unemployment bureaucracy just to get basic help, but I'm grateful this community exists to share these hard-won tips. @Rami Samuels hope your coffee-stained letter photo trick works and you can confirm that 835 number! We re'all in this fight together against a system that clearly doesn t'want to help us. 💪
ugh the adjudication process is SO frustrating!! I've been waiting 4 weeks now and can't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor to find out what's going on. They really need to improve their communication about these delays.
I had similar issues getting through to NYS Department of Labor about my adjudication status. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they help you get through to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was able to talk to someone within a day and get an update on my case.
Adjudication by definition is just bureaucratic speak for 'we're taking forever to make a decision.' I've been through this twice and both times it took over a month. Keep filing your weekly claims though because if you're approved, you'll get back pay for all the weeks you certified.
Just went through adjudication myself and wanted to share what helped me get through it! Mine lasted about 4 weeks and was due to wage verification issues from a previous job. The waiting was absolutely brutal but I kept myself sane by creating a routine - checked my online account every morning at 9am, called DOL every Tuesday/Thursday at exactly 8:01am, and kept detailed notes of every interaction. One thing that really helped was joining this subreddit and a few Facebook groups where people share real-time updates about their cases. Seeing others go through the same thing made me feel less alone. Also discovered that you can message them through the secure inbox on the NY.gov site - sometimes got faster responses than calling! Most important things: NEVER stop filing weekly claims (even though you won't get paid during adjudication, you need them for backpay), respond to any mail/email within 24 hours, and answer ALL unknown phone calls (they only try calling twice!). When I finally got approved, I received 4 weeks of backpay all at once which was such a huge relief. The system is definitely broken and the uncertainty is the worst part, but stay strong Connor! Document everything, stay persistent, and don't give up. Most legitimate claims do get resolved eventually, even if it takes longer than it should. You got this! 💪
@Connor O'Reilly wow thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! It's actually kind of wild that we have the same first name and are both going through this mess 😅 Your routine idea is really smart - I think having structure will definitely help with the anxiety instead of just randomly checking things throughout the day. The Facebook groups suggestion keeps coming up so I'm definitely going to look into those today. Really glad to hear you got your 4 weeks of backpay all at once, that must have been such a relief! Quick question about the secure inbox messaging - did you find they actually responded faster than phone calls? I've been focusing all my energy on calling but if messaging works better that could be a game changer. Thanks for sharing your experience and the encouragement, this community has been incredible! 🙏
Just wanted to add my experience since I went through adjudication about 6 months ago. Mine was triggered because my employer disputed the reason for my job separation - they claimed I quit voluntarily when I was actually terminated due to company restructuring. The whole process was nerve-wracking but ended up taking about 7 weeks total. What really saved me was keeping meticulous records from day one. I created a simple Google doc with dates, times, who I spoke with, and what was discussed. Also took screenshots of my online account status every few days. When they finally called me for a phone interview (week 5), having all that documentation made it so much easier to provide clear, consistent answers. One tip I don't see mentioned much - if you get scheduled for a phone interview, treat it seriously! Dress professionally even though it's just a call, have all your documents ready, and speak clearly. The adjudicator is trying to determine the facts, so be honest and straightforward. The backpay when it finally came through was life-changing after weeks of stress. Keep your head up Connor, the wait is horrible but most cases do get resolved if you stay on top of everything. This community helped me so much during my wait - you're definitely not alone in this! 🙏

I feel you on this! Just went through the exact same thing last month and it was absolutely maddening. The ID.me verification loop is like being trapped in digital purgatory. What finally worked for me was getting through to a live agent who explained that there was a tiny formatting difference in how my name appeared in their different systems - something I never would have figured out on my own. The agent was able to manually sync the records and I was back in within 10 minutes. Definitely try the claimyr service that others mentioned - I was skeptical at first but they really do get you connected to someone who can actually help. Don't give up, this is totally fixable once you get the right person on the phone! Keep all your documents handy when you call.

•This is so reassuring to hear! I'm new to this community and just started dealing with unemployment issues. The ID.me verification problem sounds terrifying but knowing that others have gotten through it successfully gives me hope. I haven't hit this specific issue yet but I'm bookmarking claimyr.com just in case. It's crazy how complex they've made what should be a straightforward process. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps newcomers like me understand what we might be dealing with!

Just joined this community after hitting the exact same ID.me verification nightmare! Been locked out for 3 days now and reading through everyone's experiences here is both terrifying and oddly comforting - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess. The loop is driving me absolutely insane and I'm already behind on bills. Going to try claimyr.com right now based on all the success stories here. It's wild that we need a third-party service just to access our own benefits, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Fingers crossed this works! Will update if I get through. Thanks everyone for sharing your solutions - this thread is a lifesaver! 🙏

•Welcome to the community! I'm new here too and just went through this exact same ID.me hell last week. The loop is absolutely maddening - I felt like I was going crazy refreshing the same error page over and over. Claimyr really does work though! I was skeptical about paying for it but honestly it was worth every penny to get my sanity back. Took about 2 hours from signing up to getting connected to an agent who fixed everything in under 5 minutes. Make sure you have all your documents ready when they call you back - driver's license, social security card, etc. The verification specialist I talked to was super helpful and explained that it's usually just a tiny data mismatch between systems. Rooting for you! 🤞
