I had such a hard time getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I had questions about my application. The phone lines are always busy and the online chat never works. If you run into issues trying to reach them, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me when my claim got stuck in adjudication.
Make sure you're not confusing the initial claim filing with weekly certification. For weekly claims, you should see a green button that says 'Certify for Benefits' once you're logged into your unemployment account. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to load properly.
THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE!! They send you a card to get your hopes up then make you wait weeks for actual money. I've been waiting 6 WEEKS for my adjudication to finish and still nothing on my card. Meanwhile bills keep piling up and they act like it's no big deal.
UGH the NYS Department of Labor system is SO SLOW! I waited 6 weeks for my first payment last year and they acted like that was totally normal. Meanwhile bills don't wait for their broken system to work properly!
Wait, do you get paid for the week you file or the week before? I'm confused about the timing and I don't want to mess something up that delays my money even more.

Processing time varies but typically takes 2-4 weeks if everything is straightforward. Since you were laid off (not fired for misconduct), your claim shouldn't go into adjudication unless there are questions about your work history or wages.
