Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Yes, you still get benefits even if your employer goes out of business. The unemployment insurance fund is maintained by NYS Department of Labor and doesn't depend on any single employer staying in business. That's the whole point of the insurance system.

The system is so confusing honestly. I've been collecting for 2 months and still not sure if I'm doing the job search thing right. They want 3 activities but what if you apply to 10 jobs in one day - does that count as 10 activities or just 1? And networking events - how do you even document those properly?
Each job application counts as one activity, so 10 applications = 10 activities. For networking, you document the event name, date, contacts made, etc. Keep it detailed.

You can also try submitting a FOIL request (Freedom of Information Law) for your records if the normal channels don't work. It takes longer but they have to respond within a certain timeframe.
