If you're having trouble reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor about your employer account, I had luck using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an actual person when I had questions about my SUTA rates. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of being on hold.
Just went through this exact situation last month! Unemployment benefits absolutely do NOT affect your credit score or show up on credit reports. The only way unemployment could indirectly affect your credit is if you miss payments on existing debts because the benefit amount isn't covering your expenses. But the actual receipt of UI benefits is completely separate from credit reporting.
landlord here - we don't see unemployment benefits on background checks and honestly most of us understand that good tenants sometimes go through job transitions, as long as you can show you're actively looking for work and have some income coming in you should be fine
whatever you do dont just quit without having another job lined up!! the unemployment system is so messed up right now, even if you qualify it takes forever to get approved and the weekly benefit amount is probably way less than your salary
The NYS Department of Labor considers several factors for good cause including: unsafe working conditions, harassment, significant reduction in hours or pay, changes to job location that create hardship, and violation of labor laws by the employer. Document everything with dates and times. Also check if your employer has violated any wage and hour laws - unpaid overtime could strengthen your case significantly.
WAIT THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE TOO?? I thought I was the only one! My claim got flagged for 'review' and they said something about labor market conditions. I've been freaking out for days thinking I did something wrong with my job search log!

omg yes! I'm on week 12 and some days I can barely get out of bed. The job search requirement feels impossible when you're already depressed about being unemployed. Its like they expect you to be this motivated go-getter when you're broke and stressed

•Same here - the pressure to seem enthusiastic in interviews when you're financially panicking is so hard

Been there. What really helped me was connecting with other people going through the same thing. There are some local job seeker support groups that meet weekly - it's nice to talk to people who actually understand what you're dealing with instead of well-meaning friends who've never been unemployed.
