Just to clarify - you also need to have worked in at least 2 quarters during your base period. So having wages spread across different quarters helps with eligibility. When you file your claim, the NYS Department of Labor system will automatically calculate if you meet the monetary requirements based on your wage records from all employers who reported your earnings.
What if you can't get through to NYS Department of Labor to check your wage records? I've been trying to call for days and keep getting disconnected.
I had the same problem with calling NYS Department of Labor. Tried for weeks to get through about my base period wages. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to an agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. The agent was able to look up my wage history immediately and confirm my eligibility.
The hour reduction alone might qualify you. When they cut you from full-time to part-time like that, it can be considered constructive dismissal. Make sure you have your old schedule in writing and the new one too. NYS Department of Labor takes substantial changes in working conditions seriously during their review process.
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check your benefit amount, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me reach an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really saved me time instead of calling for hours and getting disconnected. Might be worth checking out if you need to talk to someone about your specific calculation.
I had such a hard time getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I was trying to check on my claim status after filing. Kept getting busy signals and disconnected calls. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually reach a live agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Made such a difference when I needed to verify some information about my termination reason.
File now! I was fired last month for 'performance issues' too and was worried about the same thing. Turned out my employer didn't even contest it. But even if they do, NYS Department of Labor will investigate and make a determination. In the meantime you can still receive benefits pending the decision.

Wait I'm confused - if I'm working part time while on unemployment, does that time count toward starting a new claim later? I thought you couldn't work while collecting benefits?

•You can work part-time while collecting unemployment as long as you report it on your weekly claims and don't exceed the earnings threshold. Those wages do count toward establishing a new benefit year if you earn enough total.

This exhaustee status is so confusing! When I hit 26 weeks they just stopped my payments with barely any explanation. Had to figure out everything myself.
