ugh the whole system is so confusing!! I've been on unemployment for 2 months and still don't understand half the rules. Why can't they just make it simple???
The truth is that unemployment compensation has specific eligibility requirements that must be met continuously. You can't just qualify once and then ignore the ongoing requirements. This includes filing your weekly claims on time, reporting any income accurately, and maintaining your work search activities. Missing any of these can result in benefit suspension or overpayment issues.
ugh the NYS Department of Labor phone system is impossible to get through to ask questions like this. I've been trying to call for three days about my own claim issue and just get hung up on every time. The website has info but it's confusing when you have specific situations.
Have you tried Claimyr? I used it last month when I couldn't get through to NYS Department of Labor. It's at claimyr.com and they basically get you connected to an actual agent. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of calling.
If you're having trouble reaching someone at NYS Department of Labor to ask specific questions about your transition back to work, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. It was really helpful when I needed to clarify some confusing rules about reporting my new job.
just stop filing when you start working full time its not that complicated. the system will figure itself out

I was laid off 3 months ago and still collecting benefits fine. The weekly certification is pretty straightforward once you get used to it. Just make sure you report any part-time work if you pick up gig jobs while looking for full-time work.

•Good to know! How long can you typically collect for?

•Up to 26 weeks for regular unemployment benefits, but it depends on your work history and how much you earned.
