Professional identity crisis is real. I used to introduce myself by my job title and company. Now I don't know how to answer 'what do you do?' without feeling ashamed.
Thanks for this thread. It's helpful to know I'm not alone in feeling like unemployment is destroying me in ways beyond just money. The mental health impact is something nobody talks about enough.
One more thing - make sure you report your workplace injury to your employer immediately and get medical attention. Documentation is crucial for workers comp claims.
I'm curious - does Washington pay the waiting week retroactively if you filed before 2018? Or is that just for new claims after they changed the rule?
Update: I ended up using Claimyr like several people suggested and got through to an ESD agent this morning. Turns out there was a verification flag on my account that was holding up the first week payment. The agent cleared it and said I should see the payment in 2-3 business days. Thanks everyone for the help!
I was confused about this too until I talked to a Washington ESD agent through Claimyr. They explained that benefit amounts are set by state law and based on individual work history. Economic conditions don't change the calculation formula, though they might affect things like benefit duration extensions.
Yeah, regular calling is basically impossible, but Claimyr made it actually manageable to get answers to my questions.
Bottom line: high unemployment rates in your area don't reduce your individual benefit amount. Your weekly benefit is calculated based on your personal earnings history during your base period. If your benefit seems lower than expected, it's more likely due to factors like your specific base period wages, tax withholding, or comparing different types of benefit programs.
Thank you everyone! This has been really helpful. I feel much better understanding that my benefit amount is based on my own work history and not affected by what's happening economically around me.

I've been following this thread and just wanted to add - if you do end up needing to call Washington ESD about this, I had good luck with that Claimyr service too. I was skeptical at first but it really did get me through to an agent quickly. Sometimes talking to a real person helps clarify these confusing situations better than trying to figure it out from websites and letters.

•At this point I'm willing to try anything to get some real answers about my options. Thanks for the recommendation.

•Hope it helps. These situations are stressful enough without having to guess what the rules actually mean.

Bottom line - focus on your workers comp case first since that's your primary source of income right now. Once that's resolved you'll have a clearer picture of your employment options and whether unemployment benefits make sense. Don't stress too much about unemployment until you know your final medical status.

•You're right. I think I was getting ahead of myself trying to solve everything at once. Need to take this step by step.
