Washington ESD has really improved their online system in recent years. Filing the initial claim is pretty straightforward now, though getting help when you need it is still challenging.
For what it's worth, I used to work at a temp agency and we had people qualify for unemployment with just 4-5 months of work history all the time. Your 8 months should be more than enough.
Last thing - if you run into any issues after you move and need to talk to Washington ESD, that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier might be your best bet. The regular phone lines are basically useless at this point.
This whole thread should be pinned somewhere. So much good info about interstate unemployment benefits that I couldn't find anywhere else online.
The maximum benefit amount changes every year so make sure you're looking at current information. I think it went up in 2025 but I'm not 100% sure of the exact amount.
Just remember that unemployment is temporary. Use the time to really focus on your job search and maybe learn some new skills. The benefits won't last forever and you want to get back to work before they run out.
The monetary determination notice you get after filing will break down exactly which quarters and wages they used for your calculation. Keep that document - you'll need it if you ever have to appeal or verify your benefit amount.
Thanks everyone for all the explanations! This makes so much more sense now. I was getting worried my benefit amount would be wrong but it sounds like Washington ESD has a pretty systematic way of calculating it.

Just want to echo what others said about keeping accurate records. I had a friend who got into trouble because she forgot to report some cash tips and Washington ESD caught it later. Ended up having to pay back benefits plus penalties.

•Yikes, that sounds expensive. I'll definitely be careful about reporting everything accurately.

•Yeah, it's not worth trying to hide income. They have ways of finding out and the penalties are harsh.

Overall, don't be intimidated by the process. Lots of people file for partial unemployment when their hours get cut. It's a legitimate benefit that you've earned through your work history. Just be honest and thorough with your application and weekly claims.

•You're welcome! Good luck with your claim. It can really help bridge the gap when your income gets reduced.
