Thank you everyone for all this information! As someone who's never dealt with unemployment before, this thread has been incredibly helpful in understanding what I need to know.
Just want to mention again that if anyone is having trouble getting through to Washington ESD to verify their eligibility or ask specific questions about their situation, Claimyr has been a lifesaver for me. Saved me hours of failed phone calls trying to reach an agent.
I'm definitely going to try this if I have issues. The stories people tell about trying to reach Washington ESD by phone are pretty discouraging.
Yeah, the regular phone system is really frustrating. Claimyr takes that headache away - worth checking out their demo video if you're curious how it works.
Just want to add that your benefit amount is based on wages during your 'base period' which is usually the first 4 of the last 5 completed quarters before you file. Make sure you understand which quarters they're looking at for your claim.
remember you still gotta do job searches even if you get the max benefit amount. dont slack on that part or they'll cut you off
For what it's worth, I've never had issues with fees at Bank of America ATMs or using the card for purchases. The problems only come when you use random ATMs or don't know where the free ones are.
Thanks everyone for all the tips! This has been really helpful. I had no idea there were so many ways to avoid the fees. Going to try the grocery store cash back option first since there's a Safeway right by my house.
Just remember that no news is usually good news with unemployment claims. If there were serious issues with your eligibility, you'd typically hear about those pretty quickly.
Been unemployed twice in the past 5 years and both times the approval process felt like it took forever even though it was actually pretty standard timing. The waiting is just part of the process unfortunately.

•Good luck with your payment plan setup. It's really not as scary as it seems once you get it sorted out.

Update: I finally got through to Washington ESD using the claimyr service someone recommended. Set up a $60/month payment plan for my $2,800 overpayment. The representative was actually really helpful once I got connected. Thanks everyone for the advice!

•This gives me hope for my own situation. Maybe I should try that calling service too.
