Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Final thought - start preparing financially now. Cut expenses, talk to creditors if needed, look into payment plans for utilities, etc. The transition period can be rough but planning ahead helps.
You're right, I should start making those calls now rather than waiting until I'm behind on bills.
Many utility companies have hardship programs that can help bridge gaps in income. Definitely worth asking about before you fall behind.

Has anyone tried using the WorkSource offices for advice on this kind of situation? I wonder if they have counselors who can help you think through the decision and understand your options.
I didn't think of that! Are they just for job search help or do they provide other services?
They offer career counseling and can sometimes help with workplace issues. Might be worth a call to see what resources they have.

My sister had to wait almost 6 weeks because she forgot to verify her identity. Make sure you've completed all the steps in your account.
Where do I check if I need to verify identity? I don't remember doing that.

My advice is to apply ASAP because even if you qualify, there's always a waiting week before benefits start. Plus if there are any issues to resolve, you want to get the process started as soon as possible.
Good point about the waiting week. I'll start the application tonight.
For what it's worth, I think you have a decent chance of approval based on what you've described. 8 months of steady work shows good work history, and attendance issues without other misconduct factors usually don't disqualify people. Just be prepared for possible adjudication delays.

Bottom line - take your highest earning quarter from your base period, divide by 26, and that's probably what your weekly benefit will be (unless it exceeds the $999 max). Everything else is just details.
