One more thing - if you ever have issues with your weekly claim or payments, document everything. Screenshots, dates, times you called, etc. Helps if you need to appeal anything later
Yeah documentation is key. And if you need help reaching Washington ESD about any issues, that Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really does work - claimyr.com
Hope this all helped answer your question! The uncertainty at the beginning is normal but you'll get into a routine with the weekly filing and payment timing
honestly just apply and see what happens. the worst they can say is no and then you'll know for sure instead of stressing about all these requirements. the application itself will tell you if you qualify or not
True, I've been overthinking this. Better to just get the process started and deal with any issues as they come up.
Good luck with your application! The whole process can be overwhelming at first but once you get approved and into the routine of weekly claims, it becomes much more manageable. Just make sure to read all the instructions carefully and don't skip any required steps.
If you're getting severance, make sure to also understand any non-compete or non-disclosure agreements that might affect your job search. These can impact your unemployment eligibility too.
Bottom line: you can usually get unemployment with severance, but the details matter. File honestly, provide documentation, and be prepared to wait for Washington ESD to review your case if there are any questions.
this has been really helpful to read through, washington esd process seems overwhelming at first but breaks down into manageable steps

For what it's worth, 26 weeks was enough for me to find work last time I was unemployed, but I got lucky with timing. The key is starting your job search immediately.

•How long did it actually take you to find something?

•About 4 months, so I had a couple weeks of benefits left. But I know people who've searched for much longer.

Just want to add that if anyone is getting close to exhausting benefits, don't forget about career centers and job training resources. Even if they can't extend your UI, they might have other support.

•Good point. The resources are out there, you just have to know where to look.
