One last thing - if you do get approved, your benefits will last up to 26 weeks in Washington, but you have to keep filing those weekly claims and meeting the job search requirements. Don't skip weeks or you'll lose those benefits.
Just wanted to add - if you need help reaching Washington ESD for any reason during this process, that Claimyr service people mentioned actually worked great for me too. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works. Made dealing with Washington ESD way less stressful.
Make sure you understand the difference between being 'able and available' vs 'standby' status. Most people need to be actively seeking work every week, but standby is for specific situations like temporary layoffs.
just remember that if you mess up your weekly claim you usually cant fix it yourself - youll need to call washington esd and good luck getting through! thats why that claimyr thing might be worth it if you make mistakes
Thanks for asking this question OP. I got laid off last week and was planning to wait a few weeks to see if I could find something. Filing my claim tonight instead!
One more thing to remember - even if you think you might not qualify, it's worth filing anyway. Let Washington ESD make the determination. The worst they can say is no, but you might be surprised.
The bright side is that if you're back to work now, next year's taxes should be more straightforward without the unemployment complications. Hang in there everyone!

One more thing - keep records of everything! Screenshot your weekly claim confirmations and keep your job search log updated. If Washington ESD ever audits your claim you'll need documentation to back up what you reported.

•Great advice! I'll start keeping better records. Better safe than sorry with this stuff.

•Yes! I learned this from my cousin who got audited and had to provide 6 months of job search documentation. Luckily she had kept good records.

•That's what we're here for! The unemployment system can be confusing but once you understand the weekly routine it gets much easier.
