Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. I just got laid off from my retail job last week and I have no idea how to collect unemployment benefits. I've never filed for unemployment before and I'm totally lost. Can someone walk me through the basic steps for applying with Washington ESD? Do I need to wait a certain amount of time before applying? What documents do I need to gather? I'm really stressed about paying rent next month and could use some guidance on how to get started with this whole process.

Also worth mentioning - if you were fired for misconduct or quit without good cause, you might not be eligible for benefits. But if you were laid off due to lack of work, you should be fine. The application will ask about the reason for separation from your job.

Last piece of advice - once you get approved and start receiving benefits, don't spend it all right away. Benefits don't last forever and you want to make sure you're prepared for when they run out. In Washington, regular unemployment benefits last up to 26 weeks.

How much unemployment will I get from Washington ESD - weekly benefit calculation help

I'm trying to figure out how much my weekly unemployment benefit will be before I file my claim with Washington ESD. I made about $52,000 last year working full time at a manufacturing company until I got laid off two weeks ago. I've heard it's based on your highest earning quarter but I'm not sure how to calculate it. Does anyone know the formula Washington ESD uses? I need to know for budgeting purposes since I have rent and car payments to worry about.

How long after Washington ESD unemployment payment is released does it actually hit your account?

My weekly claim was processed two days ago and shows 'payment released' on my Washington ESD account, but I still don't see the money in my bank account. This is my first time getting unemployment benefits and I'm not sure what's normal. How long does it usually take after Washington ESD releases the payment for it to actually show up? I'm using direct deposit with Wells Fargo if that matters.

Update: Just wanted to let everyone know my payment showed up this morning! Took exactly 2 business days after 'payment released' showed on my Washington ESD account. Thanks for all the helpful info.

I've been trying to apply for unemployment benefits through the Washington ESD website for over a week now but keep running into technical issues. The site keeps timing out when I try to submit my application, and I've cleared my cache multiple times. I'm wondering if there's a different way to apply for unemployment in Washington state? Can you still apply by phone or mail, or do they force you to use the online system? I'm getting really frustrated because I need to get this claim started ASAP.

The bottom line is you need to get your claim filed ASAP no matter what method you use. Every day you wait is money you're losing.

Just want to add that once you do get your claim filed, you'll need to file weekly claims to keep getting benefits. The process is similar - online is fastest when it works, phone as backup.

I got fired from my retail job last week for being late too many times (had some car trouble issues but couldn't prove it). My manager said it was for cause. Now I'm wondering if I can still file for unemployment benefits through Washington ESD or if being fired disqualifies me automatically? I've been working there for almost 2 years and really need the income while I look for something new. Has anyone been in this situation before?

One more thing - if you do get approved, make sure you understand the weekly claim filing requirements. You have to certify every week that you're able and available for work and actively searching. Missing a weekly claim can cause payment delays.
