One last thing - keep copies of EVERYTHING. Every document you submit, every correspondence from Washington ESD, your job search log, all of it. If there are ever questions or appeals, you'll need that paper trail.
Just remember the system is designed to help people who are unemployed through no fault of their own. As long as you're honest and follow the rules, you should be fine. Don't let the bureaucracy intimidate you.
Last tip - if your claim gets stuck in adjudication or you have any complex issues, don't hesitate to get help contacting ESD. That Claimyr service I mentioned earlier really came through for me when I needed it most.
Update: I just finished filing my initial claim! It took about 45 minutes but wasn't as bad as I expected. Thanks everyone for all the help and advice. Now I just need to wait and see if it gets approved.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I'm feeling much more confident about filing my new claim now. This thread answered so many questions I didn't even know I had.
Just wanted to follow up on the Claimyr thing mentioned earlier - I tried it yesterday and actually got through to Washington ESD in about 30 minutes. Agent was able to answer my questions about filing a new claim and even helped me understand why my previous claim ended when it did.
Wow, really? I'm definitely going to try that then. 30 minutes beats the 4 hours I spent on redial yesterday with no luck.
Don't panic yet - most of these denials are fixable once you talk to someone. The hard part is just getting through to an actual person who can help.
Classic Washington ESD move - deny first, explain never. Hope you get through to someone who can actually help instead of just reading you the same info that's already on the website.

One more tip - if you're getting error messages or the site won't load, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. The Washington ESD site can be finicky with certain browsers.

•I'll try that if I run into problems. I've been using Chrome but maybe I'll try Firefox as backup.

Update us after you file your first weekly claim! It's always good to hear success stories and know the process worked for someone else.
