Quick question - does the residual pay get deposited the same way as regular unemployment benefits? Same timeline and everything?
this whole thread has been really helpful. i was totally confused about residual pay too but now i understand how it works. thanks everyone for explaining it so clearly!
One thing to keep in mind - even if your claim gets approved, your employer's unemployment insurance rates might go up. That's why some companies fight claims even when they know they'll probably lose. It's not personal, just business.
Good luck with your claim! Keep us posted on how it goes. This thread has been really helpful - I'm in a similar situation and was too scared to file before reading all these responses.
For me the thing most associated with unemployment is the weekly anxiety about whether everything will process correctly. Every week feels like rolling the dice.
The thing that surprises people is how much work unemployment actually is. Between job searching, weekly claims, and dealing with Washington ESD issues, it's like a part-time job.
Just want to add that if you ever have issues with payments or need to speak to someone at Washington ESD, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier is legit. I used it when my payments got held up and they helped me get through to resolve it quickly.

The real question is whether WorkSource offices stay open during shutdowns. Some of those have federal funding and might close, which could make it harder to meet job search requirements.

•Good point! I use WorkSource for job search activities. Would hate to lose access to their computers and job posting system.

•WorkSource WA locations might have reduced services during federal shutdowns since they receive some federal workforce funding. But Washington ESD accepts online job search activities too, so you have alternatives.

thanks everyone this makes me feel much better about filing my weekly claim on Sunday. Was honestly considering skipping it thinking the system might be down.

•Never skip filing your weekly claim! That's the fastest way to mess up your benefits. Always file even if you're not sure.

•Exactly! Missing a weekly claim filing can cause all sorts of problems with Washington ESD. Better to file and have it rejected than not file at all.
