Make sure you're also registering with WorkSource if you haven't already. That's a requirement in Washington and could delay your benefits if you don't do it.
The waiting game is brutal but try not to stress too much at the two week mark. Most straightforward claims get processed within 3-4 weeks total.
Just to add some perspective - I know the waiting week sucks, but Washington's unemployment benefits are actually pretty decent compared to other states. The maximum weekly benefit amount is higher than most places, and we don't have some of the harsher requirements other states have implemented.
For anyone still confused about this: Think of the waiting week as an unpaid 'probation period' for your unemployment claim. You have to prove you're following all the rules (filing weekly, doing job searches, etc.) for that first week before they start paying you. It's bureaucratic nonsense, but that's the logic behind it.
Last piece of advice - screenshot or save any text messages, emails, or other communications you have related to the problems at your old job. Digital evidence can disappear and you want to preserve everything while you still have access to it.
Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'm feeling much more hopeful about this now. Going to file my claim this weekend and start gathering documentation. Will update you all on how it goes.
Wishing you the best! And remember that Claimyr option if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD.

Just remember that even after approval, your first payment might be less than expected because of the waiting week. Washington has a one-week waiting period that doesn't get paid unless you stay on benefits for a certain amount of time.

•Yes, the first week of your claim is an unpaid waiting week. You can potentially get it paid later if you remain eligible for several weeks, but initially it's unpaid.

Hang in there - the waiting is definitely the hardest part but once everything gets rolling it becomes pretty routine. File your weeklies on time and you should be good to go.

•That's what these forums are for! We've all been there and understand the stress. It does get easier once you're in the system.
