This thread has been super informative. I didn't realize you could transition from disability to unemployment benefits. Good to know for future reference!
Also be prepared for the weekly claim filing process. Every week you'll need to log in and answer questions about your job search activities, any work you did, and whether you're still able and available to work. Miss a week and you won't get paid for that week.
One last tip - if you're planning to do any part-time or temporary work while collecting benefits, make sure you understand how that affects your payments. You can usually work part-time and still collect partial benefits, but you need to report all earnings accurately.
Just make sure to report all your gig earnings, even if they're small amounts. Washington ESD will deduct from your benefits based on what you earn, but you can often still get some benefits as long as you don't earn too much.
Anyone know if you can still get partial benefits if you pick up a second part-time job to make up for lost hours?
Bottom line - if your hours got cut through no fault of your own and you're making less money, apply for partial unemployment. Washington ESD is there to help bridge that gap while you look for better employment.
The system has definitely improved since the pandemic chaos, but it's still not perfect. At least now you can actually get through the application process without the website crashing every few minutes.
True, but the phone system is still a disaster. I spent 6 hours total on hold last week trying to get a simple question answered.
That's exactly the problem Claimyr solves. No more sitting on hold for hours just to talk to someone about your claim.
Just want to add that if you worked for the federal government or military, your eligibility might be handled differently. There are special programs for federal employees and ex-service members.

Bottom line - don't overthink it. The application walks you through everything step by step. Just have your employment info ready, be honest about everything, and file your weekly claims on time. The rest will sort itself out.

You got this! Unemployment benefits exist for exactly this situation. Don't feel guilty about using them - that's what they're there for.
