Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Can you get unemployment if you're fired in Washington state?

My supervisor terminated me last Friday after what they called 'performance issues' but I think it was really because I questioned some safety protocols at our warehouse. I've been working there for 8 months and this came out of nowhere. I know getting fired is different from being laid off, but can I still file for unemployment benefits through Washington ESD? I'm really stressed about how I'm going to pay rent next month.

One more tip - if your employer does contest your claim and you disagree with the initial decision, you can appeal. Don't give up if the first decision doesn't go your way.

The appeal process is pretty fair from what I've seen. You get to present your case to an administrative law judge who reviews everything independently.

Who is responsible for paying unemployment benefits in Washington?

I'm really confused about how unemployment actually gets funded. My coworker says our employer pays for it directly when we get laid off, but my sister thinks it comes from taxes we pay. I just got approved for Washington ESD benefits after being let go from my retail job and I'm curious - who is actually responsible for paying these unemployment benefits? Is it the government, my former employer, or does it come from somewhere else?

I'm dealing with an overpayment issue right now and Washington ESD wants money back. Still having trouble reaching someone to explain it properly. Might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier.

Do apartments accept Washington ESD unemployment as income when applying?

I'm currently receiving unemployment benefits from Washington ESD and need to find a new apartment. My lease is up in two months and I'm worried about whether landlords will accept my UI payments as valid income. I'm getting about $580 per week which should be enough for rent, but I don't know if property managers consider unemployment benefits legitimate income or if they'll automatically reject my application. Has anyone had success renting while on Washington ESD benefits? What documentation did you need to provide?

What is the unemployment percentage right now in Washington state - does it affect my claim?

I keep hearing different numbers about unemployment rates and I'm wondering what the current unemployment percentage is in Washington. Does the state's unemployment rate affect my individual claim status or weekly benefit amount? I filed 2 weeks ago and still waiting for approval. Just curious if higher unemployment means longer processing times or anything like that.

The unemployment rate only counts people actively looking for work, not those who've given up searching or are underemployed. So it doesn't tell the whole story.
