I'm dealing with an overpayment issue right now and Washington ESD wants money back. Still having trouble reaching someone to explain it properly. Might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier.
Definitely worth trying claimyr.com for overpayment questions. Those are complicated issues that really need to be discussed with an actual Washington ESD representative.
Thanks everyone for explaining this! I feel much better understanding that my benefits are coming from insurance my employer already paid for, not like I'm taking charity or anything.
I used Claimyr last month when I needed to update my information quickly for an apartment application. Super easy process and they called me back within like 20 minutes. Way better than the usual Washington ESD phone nightmare.
sometimes I wonder if they just make up these numbers... the 'official' unemployment rate never seems to match what I see in real life with people struggling to find decent jobs
Bottom line - focus on your own claim rather than worrying about the state percentage. Make sure you're filing your weekly claims on time and meeting all the requirements. The unemployment rate is just a macro economic indicator.
Oh and one more resource - if you need help with the job search requirements or finding work, WorkSourceWA has career counselors who can help. They're pretty good at what they do.

One more tip - if your employer does contest your claim and you disagree with the initial decision, you can appeal. Don't give up if the first decision doesn't go your way.

•Good to know there's an appeal process. Hopefully it won't come to that, but it's reassuring to know I have options.

•The appeal process is pretty fair from what I've seen. You get to present your case to an administrative law judge who reviews everything independently.

Update us on how it goes! I'm sure other people will be in similar situations and your experience could help them.

•Good luck! Remember that most people who file for valid reasons do get approved eventually.
