For anyone reading this later - make sure you keep track of all your employment dates and wages. Washington ESD will verify everything anyway but having your own records makes the process smoother.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! This thread answered way more questions than I expected. Feeling much more prepared now in case I do end up needing to file for unemployment.
Thanks for this thread. Bookmarking it for reference since I'm sure I'll have more questions as I navigate this whole unemployment process.
One last tip - keep track of your payment dates in a spreadsheet or calendar. It helps you identify if there's actually a problem versus normal processing delays.
One more thing - if you have any employees, make sure you handle their final paperwork properly too. Washington ESD might ask about that during your adjudication.
The anxiety of waiting for that first payment is real. I was checking my KeyBank card app constantly and calling the automated phone line multiple times a day. Drove myself crazy for nothing because the payment came exactly when it was supposed to, I just didn't know what 'supposed to' meant.
Update for anyone still having trouble getting through to Washington ESD: I used Claimyr again yesterday to help a friend who was having payment issues. Got connected in under 30 minutes and the agent was able to identify that her claim had been flagged for identity verification. Would never have figured that out from the online portal alone.

Just remember that unemployment is temporary assistance, not a long-term solution. Use the time to actively job search and improve your situation.

•Definitely. I'm hoping to find something quickly but it's good to have this safety net while I look.

The main thing is don't be afraid to apply. If you worked and lost your job through no fault of your own, you've earned the right to unemployment benefits. It's not charity, it's insurance you paid into.
