Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. For budgeting purposes, assume you'll get your first payment about 2-3 weeks after filing if everything goes smoothly. But build in extra time in case there are any issues that need to be resolved.
Yeah I'm trying to stretch my savings to cover at least a month just in case. Better safe than sorry.
Smart approach. I made the mistake of assuming I'd get paid right away and had to borrow money from family when it took 4 weeks.
Don't forget to keep track of all your unemployment income for tax purposes. You'll get a 1099-G form at the end of the year but it's good to keep your own records too.

Quick question - if you're getting partial unemployment and then get completely laid off, do you have to file a new claim or does it automatically adjust?
You typically don't need to file a new claim - just report the change in your weekly claim filing. Your benefit amount should automatically adjust to the full amount you're eligible for.
That's correct. I went from partial to full unemployment and it was just a matter of reporting zero wages and hours on my weekly claim.
Really wish I had known about partial unemployment benefits when my hours got cut last year. Ended up struggling financially for months before I finally got laid off and could collect regular unemployment. Live and learn I guess.

honestly just file as soon as possible and see what you get. you can always appeal the benefit amount if you think it's calculated wrong. i waited too long trying to figure everything out and lost 3 weeks of benefits
That's probably good advice. Better to get the process started and fix issues later than miss out on benefits entirely.

One last thing - keep really good records of everything. Save all your determination letters, write down confirmation numbers when you file weekly claims, screenshot everything. If there are any issues down the line, you'll need that documentation.
