my cousin works for UC and says they're still super understaffed since covid. they lost like half their experienced examiners who retired or quit and the new people take way longer to process claims. not saying its right but thats why everything takes forever now
Just as an update for anyone reading this thread later - I contacted Representative Salisbury's office based on this post. They took my information and contacted UC on my behalf. Within a week, my claim that had been pending for 5 months was processed and I received all my backpay. Definitely reach out to your local representatives if you're stuck in the UC system! They can often help move things along much faster than you can on your own.
my friend had her former job appeal after 6 MONTHS of getting benefits and she had already spent all the money on rent and stuff!!! but she won her appeal because she had text messages from her supervisor that contradicted what the company was saying at the hearing. do you have any texts or emails that might help your case??? also write down EXACTLY what your manager said when you reported the drinking issue the first time
Quick update on my situation - I won my employer appeal by focusing on patient safety protocols. The key was proving I followed the established reporting procedure first, and only took additional steps when there was no response to my initial report. The referee specifically noted in her decision that actions taken to protect patient safety, when following reporting chains, don't constitute willful misconduct. I hope this helps with your case!
THE TRACKER IS A JOKE!!!! Been on unemployment 3 times in PA and EVERY SINGLE TIME they use this excuse. It's just what they say when they don't want to deal with your claim. I was told I was "in the tracker" for 6 WEEKS last time!!! The system is BROKEN and they know it!!
same here man... was told tracker this tracker that and then my claim just expired before anyone ever looked at it. had to start all over again. PA UC is the absolute worst
While I understand your frustration, the tracker system itself isn't the problem - it's the understaffing and overwhelming case volumes that cause these delays. The task management system is actually designed to ensure claims don't slip through the cracks, but when there aren't enough examiners to handle the volume, backlogs develop. If your claim has been in the queue for more than 3 weeks, I recommend contacting your state representative as they can often help expedite matters.
Final update: My claim finally processed today! Took exactly 12 business days after being put in "the tracker." I did end up using Claimyr to reach someone yesterday, and they told me my claim had been assigned to an examiner but was waiting on final approval. Guess that nudge helped because this morning everything switched to paid status and my payment is scheduled for tomorrow. So relieved! Thanks everyone for your help and advice.
Update us when you get this resolved! I'm dealing with a similar issue (though not with a money order) and it helps to hear how others navigate this maze of a system.

dont they have to prove you got the notice? like dont they send important stuff certified mail or something

•Unfortunately, PA UC typically sends most notices by regular first-class mail, not certified mail. They're only required to send it to your last known address on file. This is exactly why keeping your address updated with them is so important, and why so many people run into this problem. They don't have to prove you personally received it - only that they sent it to your address of record. It's definitely a flaw in the system.

Update: I talked to Legal Aid today and they're going to help me file the "nunc pro tunc" appeal! The attorney said I have a strong case since I never received ANY communication about the appeal until they tried to take my tax refund. Apparently PA UC is required to make a "reasonable attempt" to notify claimants, and sending one notice to a possibly outdated address doesn't qualify as reasonable when they're collecting debts years later. Will keep everyone posted on how this goes. Thanks so much for all the advice!

•That's excellent news! Legal Aid attorneys who specialize in unemployment cases know exactly how to handle these situations. Make sure they address both the procedural issue (lack of notice) and the substantive issue (whether you were actually eligible for the benefits in the first place). Your case is exactly why the "nunc pro tunc" process exists. Good luck, and please do update us on how it goes - your experience could help others in similar situations.
